Subject: APRU Special Event: Screening of "The Truth is Out There", 3 pm, 1 May
Date: April 30th 2012

Hi All,

Here is your final reminder that we have arranged a screening of the film, "The Truth is Out There" with an introduction and Q&A session from the film's Director and Co-Executive Producer, Phil Leirness. This will take place at 3 pm on 1 May in LG01, New Academic Building, Goldsmiths (see College web site for maps, directions, etc.). The event is free and open to the public and promises to provide an insight into the thinking behind conspiracy theories. Whatever your views on the latter, I think this film looks like it will be entertaining and informative. You can get a taster here:

Note that the film has a running time of 2 hours and 23 minutes and Phil usually takes about 5-7 minutes to introduce it. So, with the Q&A, it's going to be quite a long session (hence the earlier than usual start time). Please try to find time to come along and spread word of the event to others whom you think may be interested.

Here is a synopsis of the film provided by Phil Leirness:

Dean Haglund is an actor, an improv comic, an artist and an inventor. Best known by millions of fans the world over for playing one of the computer-hacking Lone Gunmen on The X-Files and their own spin-off series, Dean has become closely identified with the realm of the paranormal and the world of conspiracy. He has even found himself at the center of a conspiracy theory surrounding the events of 9/11. Equal parts comedy, consciousness and conspiracy, THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE follows Dean Haglund as he travels the globe, using his "insider" status to interview conspiracy theorists, researchers, authors, journalists, New Age devotees, scientists and artists.

Do ghosts exist? What are UFOs? Is there a government cover-up concealing the existence of extra-terrestrials? Is there an effort underway to establish a New World Order controlled by the banks or the U.N.? Is the industrialization of our food and water supply not only responsible for the erosion of our health, but is it part of a plan put into place by the world's elitists to eradicate a large percentage of the world's population? What really happened on 9/11? Why does proven technology that could change the world and improve our lives not receive mainstream media or corporate attention? Is there a 'spiritual' dimension that humans can learn how to tap into?Dean will listen and learn while discussing all of these topics and more, hoping to discover what it means to search for the truth in a world where conspiracies, or conspiracy theories, are everywhere.

About Phil Leirness:

Phil Leirness, the Director, Cinematographer, Editor and Co-Executive Producer of THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE, will be attending the screening to introduce his film and to participate in a post-screening discussion. Based in Los Angeles, Phil has directed six feature films, more than forty documentary short subjects, and several music videos and commercials. In addition, he has worked as both a development and acquisitions executive, and as managing director for a consortium of Europe-based film distribution companies. He is a California state certified violence prevention specialist, and for almost five years, has co-hosted the free weekly podcast Chillpak Hollywood Hour with Dean Haglund. He can also be heard as a regular contributor to Combat Radio and as a weekly cultural correspondent to The Midweek Drive on Siren 107.3 FM in the UK (as well as on Southside Broadcasting).

Best wishes,
Chris
